meOw i lunched a restaurant in chinatown the day before. it was nice, and rather economical considering that it served us a three course meal with a nice hospitality :)
i ate tofu with foie gras for appetizer :))) SERIOUSLY, IT'S VERY VERY NICE. imagine a crispy piece of tofu with thin slices of mushroom on the top and when you sink your teeth into it, the thin crispy layer ruptures, exposing a soft layer of tofu that melts in your mouth... and then the foie gras... it's a dark brown foie gras sauce that's a little salty and it's very appetizing when eaten together with the bland, crispy tofu.
for the main course, i chose a serving of black peppered USA beef, medium rare, and it comes together with french fries and a small plate of salad. the beef wasn't as medium rare as it should be, but luckily, it was still rather tender. the meat is rather user-friendly, except for the inner part where it looks very raw. kekex. the french fries comes with tomato sauce and some mayonnaise. and if i'm not wrong, the french fries should be freshly made by them as it was really crispy, golden yellow in colour and the size of the fries wasn't those standard kind you would see in the markets. then the salad. a plate of fresh, mixed vegetables topped with their secret sauce and a twist of lemon. you can taste the bland taste of the vegetables as you munch on, together with a mildly sour taste from the lemon sauce.
lastly, the appetizer. i chose a serving of nougats. the presentation was very colourful, with some mixture of berries, an oval piece of lychee ice and a piece of yellow flower-like berry on the top left hand corner. the nougats were on the right hand side, with one nougat on the background and 3 pieces on the foreground. the nougats were very scrumptious, with a thin layer of vanilla icecream at the bottom, and it really does kind of melt in your mouth.
maria chose a plate of chocolate cake with an icecream. the chocolate cake seems pretty much like an ordinary sponge cake from the outside, but once you break the sponge, hot chocolate fillings come spilling out from the sponge cake, and onto the palte itself. the chocolate cake is now somewhat complete upon dipping a small piece of chocolate cake into the chocolate sauce. the strong chocolate smell lingers in the mouth and the thick chocolate sauce doesn't seem to dissipate even after you've swallowed the cake. then, the next mouth, try dipping the chocolate cake in the chocolate sauce AND the ice cream. ummmmm... a thick chocolate taste with a twist of pistachios and light walnuts.
mom chose a plate of FARM CHEESE. <- and i practically rofl-ed. comments: one just gets more stinky than the other. i cut a small piece of the cheese and it lingered in my mouth for around 20 seconds; the smell lingered in my mouth for almost 20 minutes.
coffee was supposed to be served the last, but then we pushed it forward and asked for it to be served before the main course. the freshly grounded coffee was just nice, aromatic, yet not too thick nor too bland. it's served together with a small piece of peanut cookie, fresh milk, and some brown sugar. in short, they grind itwhen you want it and i like it this way :)
